Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

Femi Fani-Kayode: Of Tyrants, Martyrs and Heroes (Part 2)

It is with the foregoing in mind that we must examine and critically analyse the performance of the Buhari administration. I have nothing personally against President Muhammadu Buhari and, as he knows, I have the utmost respect for his office.

Yet, like Oliver Cromwell and Sir Thomas More, despite the sign of the times and the hazards and perils of standing against injustice and tyranny, we must rid ourselves of our fears and speak the bitter truth. And that truth is as follows.
The more our government persecutes its perceived enemies, the more they are sowing the seeds of disintegration in our country. The more they oppress and attempt to intimidate those they seek to silence and subjugate, the more they engender anger, rebellion, alienation, enmity and division.

Femi Fani-Kayode: Of Tyrants, Martyrs and Heroes (Part 1)

Read the article from Femi Fani-Kayode below:

Apart from the fact that he was a passionate Puritan, a man of prayer and a devout and practicing Christian, the thing that I admire the most about Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658), the British Member of Parliament and nobleman, the Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland and the father of Parliamentary democracy in the United Kingdom, is the fact that he was a man of immense courage.

He entertained no fear when he was faced with tyranny and when he was threatened with torture, incarceration and death by his adversary, King Charles 1st of England. Everything came to a head in the House of Commons when the King stormed Parliament with his soldiers to effect the arrest of five people, including Cromwell. On hearing about the Kings approach four of those that were to be arrested fled the House of Commons but Cromwell refused to do so. He chose to wait for the King and to face him down once and for all.

Boni Yayi: Our Friend Next Door By Reuben Abati

Article written by Reuben Abati. Read below...

Our neighbours to the West, the Republic of Benin, have just concluded a Presidential election, which has been considered free, fair and peaceful, from the first round, to the run-off which produced businessman Patrice Talon as winner and next President of that country of about 10 million people.
Commentators have noted with delight the manner in which incumbent Prime Minister and Talon’s main challenger, Lionel Zinsou, graciously admitted defeat even before the release of final, official results, and congratulated the winner. Zinsou has been compared to former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan. In a continent threatened by a renewed appetite for sit-tightism by its leaders, it is exciting that some politicians are setting good examples. In the last one year, we have had the example of Jonathan in Nigeria. And now Zinsou, in the Republic of Benin. We hope that there will be more of their kind.
