Senate President,
Bukola Saraki, was conspicuously absent on Tuesday, when Speaker of the House
of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the
State House, Abuja over the 2016 budget.
Saraki
and other principal officers of the Senate were scheduled to meet with the
President in a bid to sort out grey areas of the 2016 budget originally on
Friday but was reportedly put off till Tuesday because one of the principal
officers meant to be at the meeting was out of town.
The
President and Dogara were joined at the meeting by the Chief of Staff to the
President, Abba Kyari; and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on
National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang.
Reporters
were however barred from speaking to the Speaker after the meeting that held
behind closed doors, as the gate leading to the office of the President after
the Council Chambers was locked.
When
approached by reporters, Kyari, said the Speaker could not have spoken as it
was only him that came, adding that the heads of the two chambers of the
National Assembly needed to be present.
